Prepare to embark on a deeper journey into Azeroth with The War Within: Legacy of Arathor, the next major content update packed with engaging challenges, quality-of-life improvements, and compelling narrative developments. This update expands your gameplay horizons with enriched systems, new storylines, updated features, and rewarding experiences for both seasoned veterans and fresh adventurers.
A major highlight of the update is the Arathi Highlands Campaign, where a brewing conflict in this storied region draws the focus back from Khaz Algar. As old tensions between the Horde and the Alliance resurface, players will join forces with iconic characters like Faerin and Danath in an attempt to ease the rising hostility between factions. The campaign features two interconnected chapters, each offering faction-specific perspectives and questlines that reflect the complex political and emotional stakes involved. Completing this new campaign rewards players with faction-themed tabards—Stromgarde for the Alliance and Mag’har for the Horde—as well as a shoulder transmog modeled after Faerin’s distinctive armor.
To enrich your understanding of the story and prepare for the campaign, players are encouraged to explore the five-part audio novella Heartlands, which delves into the historical backdrop and motivations behind the events unfolding in Arathi.
Lorewalking with Lorewalker Cho also returns as a unique adventure mode, allowing players level 10 and above to revisit pivotal moments in Azeroth’s past. Accessible through Stormwind, Orgrimmar, or Dornogal, Lorewalking suspends other quest activity so you can immerse yourself fully in historical storylines. There are three distinct repeatable arcs to explore:
- Meet the Ethereals, which includes encounters across Netherstorm, Legion, Shadowlands, and Tazavesh.
- Experience Xal’atath’s Storyline, which traces her sinister journey from Legion to the Battle for Azeroth and even back to the time of the Black Empire.
- Face the Past with Arthas, a haunting trip through Stratholme and Icecrown that brings players face-to-face with the legacy of the Lich King.

Adventurers seeking a greater challenge can look forward to the introduction of Overcharged Delves. This enhanced difficulty tier for Delves introduces a unique affix designed to raise the stakes and reward players with rare loot and new upgrade paths. Six Delves—Kreigval’s Rest, Skittering Breach, The Spiral Weave, Nightfall Sanctum, Fungal Folly, and Sidestreet Sluice—will feature intensified threats, enhanced traps, and a brand-new trait tree. Players can unlock and tailor their traits to not only overcome hazards but also turn them into strategic advantages.
Of course, no major update is complete without enticing new rewards. Legacy of Arathor includes the Titan Disc Belt, which can be progressively upgraded through weekly quests. A new mount, the Overcharged Mech Suit, and an array of new gear and Delves currency will also be available for those who brave the challenges ahead.
Another exciting innovation is the addition of Combat Assistant and Single-Button Assistant, two user interface enhancements designed to support players in combat. The Combat Assistant suggests the next optimal ability to use based on your current situation and resource state. It’s ideal for players learning a new specialization, returning to the game, or simply wanting a more intuitive UI. For even more streamlined gameplay, the Single-Button Assistant enables players to follow these recommendations with a single key press. It automatically adapts to single-target or area-of-effect situations and includes a slight global cooldown delay for clarity and control. These tools, combined with the earlier Cooldown Manager from patch 11.1.5, show Blizzard’s continued focus on improving accessibility and onboarding for new and returning players.
The Greedy Emissary event is also making a comeback in this content cycle. This limited-time experience allows players to hunt down these mischievous emissaries in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, Dornogal, and Undermine. Participants can earn devilish new rewards—including a brand-new mount and recolored versions of classic Tier 2 armor sets, making this event a treasure trove for collectors. Alongside this, the Collector’s Bounty buff will temporarily increase legacy loot drop rates across Azeroth, making it a perfect time to revisit older content.
Another key addition to this update is the refreshed Turbulent Timeways event, now featuring Battle for Azeroth as part of its rotation. This six-week event will begin and conclude with Battle for Azeroth content, cycling through the following weekly themes:
- Week 1: Battle for Azeroth
- Week 2: Mists of Pandaria
- Week 3: Burning Crusade
- Week 4: Warlords of Draenor
- Week 5: Legion
- Week 6: Battle for Azeroth
This updated rotation includes six timewalking dungeons from BFA—Atal’Dazar, Freehold, King’s Rest, Shrine of the Storm, Temple of Sethraliss, and Waycrest Manor. Players will also have access to a new Battle for Azeroth vendor located in Boralus and Dazar’Alor, offering unique rewards and gear for participating in timewalking content. Mastering these dungeons will bring you closer to unlocking the sleek new Chrono Corsair skyriding mount.
Whether you’re here for epic battles, deep lore, or streamlined gameplay experiences, Legacy of Arathor has something for every type of adventurer. This update marks a significant evolution in The War Within, building upon its foundation with thoughtful narrative expansions, powerful new tools, and exhilarating gameplay enhancements.
