A fresh year dawns in Tyria as the Lunar New Year festivities return, inviting players from across the realm to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Snake. As tradition calls, Divinity’s Reach is once again transformed into a vibrant hub of celebration, bursting with festive energy, dazzling fireworks, delightful Canthan cuisine, and a wide array of seasonal activities and rewards. This year’s festival begins today and will continue to light up Tyria until February 18, offering plenty of time to dive into the celebrations.

Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or just beginning your journey in Guild Wars 2, the Lunar New Year event is open to players of all experience levels. If you’re new, you’ll find that joining the fun is as simple as checking your in-game mail—there you’ll receive an Invitation to Lunar New Year. Just double-click it to be transported directly to the heart of the festival in Divinity’s Reach. Additionally, special seasonal objectives can be found in the Wizard’s Vault, giving you even more opportunities to earn astral acclaim and festive rewards while enjoying event content.

This year’s celebrations bring with them a host of fresh rewards designed to capture the spirit of the snake. Completing the annual meta-achievement will allow players to select one of the glowing weapons from the new Lantern collection—each one crafted with radiant detail that complements the festival’s theme. In addition, completing the achievement grants the new Snaketail Breeches, a stylish set of leg armor featuring a serpentine tail, perfect for pairing with last year’s Dragon Descendant’s Helm to create a look that embodies the elegance and mystery of the serpent.

For players who enjoy cracking open Lucky Envelopes, there’s even more to look forward to this year. These envelopes may contain the newly introduced Jade Serpent weapons, including the spear, dagger, and rifle, each bearing intricate snake motifs. If luck isn’t on your side, don’t worry—these weapons can also be purchased directly with gold and essences of luck from Sparking Stone, the kodan vendor stationed in Divinity’s Reach during the festival.

Two new themed back items are also part of this year’s offerings. By opening Lucky Envelopes, you have a chance to obtain the graceful Lucky Snake Lantern or the more dramatic Lucky Great Snake Lantern, both of which bring a shimmering touch to your ensemble. And don’t forget—opening Lucky Envelopes boosts your account’s magic find, increasing your chances of getting more valuable drops both during and after the festival. Inside these envelopes, you may also find essences of luck, vendorable trophies, and more.

To decorate your personal spaces, new homestead and guild hall items have been added to the Lunar New Year vendor’s inventory. These include snake-themed decorations and lanterns that let you bring a bit of the celebration home with you. There’s even a new Mini Snake companion available—adorable and festive, it’s the perfect critter to mark the occasion.

If you’re wondering where to go and how to get started, look no further than the Crown Pavilion in Divinity’s Reach. This is the central location for all Lunar New Year festivities. Use your Invitation to teleport straight there and begin exploring everything the event has to offer.

The Celestial Challenge offers a series of trials that test your combat prowess, agility, and skill across multiple objectives. From defeating enemies to navigating obstacle courses and collecting items, each task you complete earns you progress toward greater rewards. Just speak with the Celestial Challenge Attendant to join.

For those who prefer a more competitive activity, the Dragon Ball Arena is also back in full force. Meet Finola in the Crown Pavilion to queue up for this fast-paced, dodgeball-inspired PvP mode. Two teams of five race to 500 points using power-ups, movement pads, and well-timed shots to dominate the battlefield.

If speed is your passion, you’ll find joy in the Mount Racing event that loops around Divinity’s Reach. Don’t have your own mount? No problem—a nearby rental NPC offers raptors for a small fee, making the race accessible to everyone.

And if you want to add some spark to the streets, participate in the Firecracker Lighting event. This activity challenges you to quickly traverse Divinity’s Reach and light firecrackers scattered throughout the city. Use gliders, mounts, and clever navigation to complete the run—just don’t use waypoints, or your progress will reset.

With all these activities, new rewards, and the spirit of renewal in the air, the Lunar New Year 2025 event is the perfect way to kick off a new chapter in Tyria. However you choose to celebrate, may your days be full of good fortune, glowing lanterns, and thrilling adventures.
