In this guide, we’ll be diving into the Card Clues feature in The Elder Scrolls Online, specifically in the Tales of Tribute card game. Tales of Tribute was introduced with the High Isle Chapter and has since become one of the notable additions to the game. To improve your deck in this card game, Card Clues are essential for upgrading certain cards, but obtaining them requires a bit of effort.
Where Can I Get Card Clues?
Obtaining Card Clues for specific Patron Decks is a random process. Interestingly, you don’t need to take any particular actions to earn them; they drop on their own. Even if you don’t have a certain Patron unlocked, you can still receive clues for that deck. However, it’s worth noting that not all Patrons are available right from the start.
After completing the tutorial in the game, players can begin playing with upgraded cards from the following Patron Decks: Duke of Crows, Grandmaster Delmene Hlaalu, Psijic Loremaster Celarus, and Saint Pelin. These decks are unlocked early in the game and serve as a great starting point.

As you progress, additional Patron Decks will be unlocked. The following decks will become available later in the game:
- Sorcerer-King Ordnum Deck: To learn how to unlock this Patron Deck, you can check out the specific guide on how to access it.
- Ansei Frandar Hunding Deck: You can find a guide detailing how to unlock this deck.
- Rajhin, the Purring Liar Deck: For information on how to unlock this deck, another guide is available.
- Red Eagle, King of the Reach Deck: A separate guide will explain how to unlock this deck.
How Do You Obtain Card Clues?
To collect Card Clues, all you need to do is play the game. The clues drop randomly from Tribute reward boxes, which you receive after completing matches. However, it’s important to note that the drop rate for these clues is relatively low, so patience is key. Based on our experience, we received about one Card Clue for every ten matches played. This means you’ll need to put in a fair amount of playtime to gather the clues you need.
Once you have acquired a Card Clue, it will be stored in your inventory. To track your progress and find the locations of all the clues you’ve obtained, you can check the Tales of Tribute overview page, where all the details are listed for easy reference.
We hope this guide has been helpful in understanding how to obtain and use Card Clues within The Elder Scrolls Online’s Tales of Tribute. Keep playing and gathering clues, and soon you’ll be able to upgrade your deck and enhance your gameplay experience in this exciting card game feature!
