In their overview article about the new features in patch 11.1.7, the developers mentioned that initially, only three stories would be available in the “Excursion into History” mode – those about Xal’atath, the ethereals, and the Lich King. Currently, these are the only stories available for testing on the PTR. However, game files contain materials for a fourth story, which is dedicated to the blood elves, the Void, the Sunwell, and Quel’Thalas.

This particular storyline may be considered somewhat of a secret and could be released later at the appropriate time, or perhaps it wasn’t completed in time or was postponed until a future update. Still, the game files already contain various voice lines for the heroes, multiple texts, and even an illustration featuring Magister Umbric and Lor’themar Theron for the story selection window.

For example, some of the texts for the story told by the Historian Cho about the origins of the blood elves can be found in the game files, and they have already been localized into Russian:

Quote: Text
Several thousand years ago, night elves – druids – exiled a group of their highborn kin for practicing forbidden arcane magic.
These high elves sailed to the Eastern Kingdoms and established the kingdom of Quel’Thalas.
At the heart of their civilization was the Sunwell, a source of magical power that sustained the elves and fueled their arcane abilities.
Although they fought against the nearby Amani trolls, the high elves lived in relative peace and prosperity for thousands of years.
But all of that ended when Arthas and his undead army attacked Quel’Thalas.
With the loss of the Sunwell, the blood elves were forced to draw magic from other sources. However, this magic slowly began to damage both their minds and bodies.
Kael’thas knew that unless a new source of magic was found, his people would soon perish.
In his desperate search for a solution, Kael’thas captured a naaru – a being of pure Light – and ordered his magisters to extract its sacred power.
When this failed to work, Kael’thas sacrificed the sacred Sunwell to the demons of the Burning Legion in exchange for the corrupted power of Fel magic.
Heroes of the Horde and Alliance fought their way to the Sunwell and prevented the demons from summoning their dark masters.
And then, a miracle occurred. The imprisoned naaru, long tormented by the blood elves, sacrificed itself to cleanse and restore the Sunwell.
Filled with holy Light, the Sunwell once again began to sustain the blood elves, and their ill-fated search for a new source of magic finally came to an end.
They swore never to resort to dark sorcery or risk the Sunwell again. But soon, fate would test that vow…
